Meet Our Founders

Lori and Shane first crossed paths working together in a community mental health center. Both established thriving private practices upon transitioning out of that setting. In doing so, they quickly realized two things. First, there was a significant need for mental health services in the Denver metro and surrounding areas. Second, private practice allowed for a much greater level of freedom in providing services for clients in need.

These realizations, along with their understanding that a more holistic approach to health and wellness tends to provide greater results, led to the concept for Balance Holistic Wellness Center. Lori and Shane decided to create a space where multiple health and wellness professionals, offering a wide range of therapeutic services, could come together in one professional, comfortable, and relaxed space.

Shane Hodges, Licensed Professional Counselor

Shane grew up in a very small Nebraska town. After receiving his bachelor’s degree in marketing & finance from the University of Nebraska, he moved to Denver at the age of twenty-three. In 2008, he made the decision to get his master’s degree in clinical counseling, graduating from the University of Northern Colorado in 2011.

Shane completed his internship at a youth detention center, worked a few years in community mental health, and then made the decision to go full-time into private practice in 2014. He has been working in the mental health field for nearly fourteen years.

As a counselor, Shane specializes in working with the following populations:

  • Adults dealing with significant life transitions

  • Those trying to find their most authentic selves

  • Adolescents (ages 12 and above)

  • Persons who have experienced trauma

  • The LGBTQIA+ community

  • Families in conflict

  • Non-traditional couples/Couples in conflict

It is Shane’s belief that the most effective therapeutic relationship comes from an interactive dialogue between client and counselor. He strives to offer compassion, honesty, and respect to each of his clients. Shane is both laid back, and very direct in his approach. He challenges clients to not only engage in sessions but also understand they must “do the work” outside of sessions.

Shane recognizes that each client is unique and may benefit from varying methods of therapeutic intervention. Therefore, he attempts to customize his approach based on what works best for each individual client. Following are some of the methods he incorporates:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

  • Eye Movement, Desensitization, & Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Techniques from Functional Family Therapy (FFT)

  • Person-centered Therapy

  • Solution-focused Therapy

  • Reality Therapy

  • Family Therapy

  • Guided imagery and relaxation techniques

  • Journaling/Writing

Ultimately, Shane’s hope is to provide clients with the skills and tools they need to meet their counseling and personal goals, live their most authentic lives, and minimize their need for therapeutic interventions.
